Your role

We are looking for an experienced Python developer to own and drive our social analytics service & APIs, which is an important part of both our internal tools and our Intel and Enterprise tools. The service processes news and social media data from many varied sources in a unified and scalable pipeline (using a mix of classic and modern NLP). The resulting data is available for news feeds and deeper analysis to internal and external customers. This service is built in Python using spaCy on top of PostgreSQL & RabbitMQ and is deployed as a Kubernetes cluster of microservices. The data is real-time, historic and diverse, covering the likes of news articles, Tweets, Telegram broadcasts, forums, and much more. The required NLP/ML pieces are already built out, documented and functional. You won’t need experience with ML beyond the usual willingness to learn new tools and libraries.

What you’ll do

• Own the architecture, implementation and integration of the media analytics pipeline and services across Messari and to its customers (via its GraphQL and REST APIs)
• Improve and extend the ingestion data pipeline for web scraping & social media connections, adding new ingest sources to expand our coverage (forums, websites, outlets, etc.).
• Provide new media analysis/intelligence on top of our rich data pipeline to keep Messari and its customers better informed.
• Extend the media API to add and update interfaces, exposing new and existing capabilities to the rest of our platform and external API users.

Who you are

• 3+ years experience with production backend development using reasonably modern technologies (like SQL, Git) and languages (like Python, Typescript, Golang).
• Ready to own and drive a project end-to-end, from taking into account internal and external stakeholders to defining, refining, planning, executing and maintaining a vision.
• Experienced with or interested in data pipelines and analytics, particularly in building robust data pipelines, improving analytics and building internal data tools.
• Willing, capable and happy to get deep down into the unglamorous but essential details of operating a complex service (e.g., tuning SQL query performance, stabilizing data pipelines)

Projects you could work on

• Data ingestion: Extend our media ingestion pipelines to cover any crypto news/signal source you care about, and beyond.
• Data analytics: Take over and improve our text processing and machine learning infrastructure to get the most out of difficult input text in our media pipeline.
• Internal data tools: Build and integrate online and historic media analytics tools for our internal research team (which may eventually make their way into external products).

Salary Ranges for this position (depending upon experience):  #LI-AM1 Associate: $135,000 - $155,000 Mid: $155,000 - $185,000 Senior: $185,000 - $200,000 +
