Specular is a system designed to scale Ethereum securely, with minimal additional trust assumptions. It is the first EVM-native optimistic rollup, relying on existing Ethereum infrastructure to enable native compatibility for Ethereum applications and tooling. Specular’s underlying protocol is designed with resilience in mind, minimizing trust in any one component, and maximizing the ability to participate permissionlessly. In particular, Specular achieves:

  1. a minimal trusted computing base, improving security, auditability and upgradeability;

  2. support for permissionless, trust-minimized participation of any Ethereum client, enabling client diversity; and

  3. efficient dispute resolution.

You can find more information in our full manuscript, and our blog post.
