CoinDesk, the global leader in crypto and blockchain news, is seeking an editor to take charge of the editing, production, growth and improvement of its newsletter portfolio. Newsletters are a key way CoinDesk reaches its audience, bringing news, insights and more to hundreds of thousands of people every day. The right candidate is an early riser, a skilled content creator and a voracious consumer of email newsletters. The person should have experience conceiving, building, launching and improving newsletters for a news organization or media company. They should have a thorough understanding of the best practices of how to connect with and engage an audience through email, and how to grow that audience — as measured by both subscription and open rates. This must be achieved while ensuring the highest standards of privacy and protection of user data are upheld.  The editor will continually optimize our newsletters top to bottom, from subject lines to footers and everything in between, to develop efficient content models that entice readers to repeatedly engage with them. Strong writing skills, especially for subject lines and preheaders, are a must, as is the ability to quickly edit and format copy while maintaining a high bar of quality. The Newsletter Editor should have working knowledge of financial markets and cryptocurrency news as well. Although part of the content team, the Newsletter Editor will work with the product and marketing teams to hone CoinDesk’s newsletter strategy, ensuring the company is producing the right newsletters for our audience segments, and that the content is a right fit for those groups. Working with the broader team to make data-driven decisions is fundamental to the job, always keeping a close eye on open rates, sign-ups, opt-outs and more. The role will report to CoinDesk’s Chief of Staff, Content.

RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Take ownership of the editorial voice, process and quality of CoinDesk’s newsletters.
  • Work with each newsletter writer to establish and maintain consistently appealing and engaging formats, a clear voice and high quality while meeting deadlines.
  • In collaboration with marketing and product teams, continually iterate and improve CoinDesk’s newsletter operations, including production, design, A/B testing, email platform, welcome and re-engagement campaigns, and more.
  • Collaborate across teams on newsletter strategy, conceiving and launching new newsletters for new content initiatives and as well as retooling existing newsletters to reflect evolving audience segments.
  • Write strong subject lines, preheader text, summaries and more.
  • Ensure newsletters go out as scheduled, sometimes stepping in as a writer and working with the editorial team to produce newsletters when primary writers become unavailable.
  • Compile regular audience reports on each newsletter to identify the opportunities for growth and improvement of key metrics (open rates, subscribers, click through, etc.).
  • Manage the production and scheduling of Crypto for Advisors, CoinDesk’s newsletter for Financial Advisors.

ABOUT YOU:

  • 2+ years experience working as either a newsletter writer or editor for a news organization
  • Keen knowledge of how to cater to a newsletter audience
  • Excellent writing, editing and copy editing skills
  • Experience working across teams
  • Great communicator with the ability to listen generously and learn
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, news-driven organization
  • Bias to action and willingness to roll up their sleeves
  • Familiarity with financial and cryptocurrency news
