What We're Doing

At Synctera, we're closing the gap between community banks and FinTechs. Empowering the fastest growing, secure, and scalable FinTech-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform, we tear down integration complexity and build bridges. There are too many FinTechs that need access to a sponsor bank and too few sponsor banks with which to partner, leading to a lack of pricing transparency and less than favorable pricing terms. We’re here to help change that by guiding all parties through the onboarding process and beyond. We are looking for interesting, curious, wickedly smart people who are ready to jump in and run with our fast-growing team. If you want to have fun at work again, collaborate with some of the sharpest people in the industry, understand the Bank/FinTech ecosystem, and love to win, read on!

What We’re Looking For

If being on the ground floor of an exciting new startup working within the BaaS space seems interesting to you, keep reading! As a Financial Crimes Lead, you will help work through various Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Customer Identification Program (CIP) topics by conducting due diligence of potential Fintech clients, supporting Fintech clients on their BSA/AML policies and procedures, consulting our compliance operations team on AML cases, and taking a collaborative role in building Synctera’s compliance system for the FinTechs on our platform. This is a hands-on role! You will report into a Compliance Director and work collaboratively alongside other risk and compliance subject matter experts and have frequent interaction with clients. Compliance is core to what we’re building.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support the due diligence of potential Fintech clients by assessing their financial crimes and money laundering risk;
  • Support Fintech clients by reviewing BSA/AML/OFAC policies and responding to questions on CIP/KYC requirements for various use cases;
  • Work with our Sponsor Bank partners on configuring AML rules and scenarios based on the risk profile of the Fintech client;
  • Provide consultation internally on financial crimes topics including to our Compliance Operations team and Product teams;
  • Maintain subject matter expertise of all applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to AML (i.e. BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.), as well as adhering to company policies and procedures and client requirements.

What You Will Bring:

  • At least 7 years of experience working in a BSA/AML or related compliance role at a financial institution, FinTech, or similar company;
  • Strong understanding of BSA/AML, KYC/KYB, and OFAC Sanctions requirements and regulation and BSA/AML assessments;
  • Strong understanding of customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence requirements and awareness of industry best practices
  • Strong and effective communication and ability to interact well with others and to establish credibility and subject matter expertise;
  • CAMS, CFCS, or other relevant certifications or legal background desired
  • Ability to work and excel in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment;
  • Organizational skills to work on multiple clients and initiatives;
  • A passion for financial technology and working with startups;
  • Experience with some complex or higher risk use cases (e.g. international, cannabis, crypto) is a bonus!
